Regeneration is a funny, honest, and tender story-telling of how Nancy cultivated strength and joy as she journeyed through breast cancer. In a surprising twist, she finds comfort in a most unusual place—a Cambridge landmark that offers healing and consolation, while inspiring contemplation on mortality—Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
Nancy is no stranger to the power of narrative—she is the author of the award-winning memoir, In Her Wake: A Child Psychiatrist Explores the Mystery of Her Mother's Suicide (2011). Her message now, and in her memoir, is one of hope: we can find in hardship the opportunity to transform our fear and anger into life-affirming connection to those we love.
Nancy will be presenting her solo piece for at Harvard Medical School fresh off her debut performances, on October 1 and 2 at Story Chapel at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge. (October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.) It is her hope that Regeneration will help her HMS audience gain the understanding that their own vulnerability can enhance their capacity to understand and connect with their patients.
